The U.S. Needs to Step it Up

October 16, 2011 § Leave a comment

I’ve been living in London for the past month. All around me, I see efforts to reduce our impact on the environment–buses are hybrid, congestion is being controlled through a tax system, recycling bins all designate which items ought to be recycled, etc.

This New York Times article points out the sad truth about the US and its weak progress: things don’t look promising in this country. Obama is getting slammed for funding solar companies that went under, contending presidential candidates staunchly deny that global warming is real, and within the next couple months the Keystone XL pipeline may be approved!

Why can’t we recognize that we can’t afford not to start taking action on these issues? Countries all over the world are moving forward on climate-related policies and incentives. How come we have done so little?
